The purpose of this web site is to inform about the Italian national research project "Women, writing and power from the Middle Ages to the Modern times".

Three Universities are involved in the research project: the University of Bologna, the University of Florence, the First State University of Milan (Università degli Studi di Milano), the University of Perugia.

The subject of the research is the women’s familiar, social and political power during XII-XVI century. We consider also the writing an important form of social power. We decided to study women’s power from a circular point of view. The theme, in fact, has many relations and it will be studied by an analysis of texts (many texts are still unedited), according to the competencies of the searchers (philology, palaeography, textual critic, history of ideas, history of religious thought, history of philosophy). The aim of the research is to realise critical editions, translations and studies (as indicated in national and local description of the research).

The twenty-four-month study concerns several disciplines: Medieval History, Modern History, History of Medieval Philosophy, Poltical Philosophy.

The main thematic fields of the study are: Middle Ages, writing, power, politics and women.

The project coordinator is Mariateresa Fumagalli Beonio Brocchieri, who has held the chair in history of medieval philosophy at the First University of Milan since the year 1980.

The scientific coordinators of the local research units are:
